21 percutiens
00:00 / 16:21

21 percutiens originates from a wish to create a quartet for tambourines, an instrument deeply rooted in Sicilian folk traditions. Drawn to its presence through my own Sicilian roots, I was interested in the tambourine’s role as a rhythmic and social instrument that shapes the collective pulse of dances and celebrations.

The work takes this cultural foundation as a point of departure, as a gesture of nostalgia and a material condition for transformation. Each tambourine is equipped with a highly amplified microphone, allowing the performer to control feedback by moving it across the surface of the membrane. Through this setup, the instrument becomes a feedback controller, translating gesture and proximity into sound.
