osz~ translates an industrial act of selection into an audible, performative system.

In food processing, high performance valves remove grains that do not meet preset parameters. osz~ repurposes such a valve array as a polyphonic oscillator, making the moment of expulsion perceptible as sound. The piece comprises 21 short etudes whose durations are bounded by available air in a compressor, thereby coupling musical form to mechanical capacity. The project aims to render visible and audible the logics of large scale consumption chains that deem minor deviations sufficient cause for discarding food.By recontextualizing valves, compressor, osz~ converts a mechanism of removal into a practice of attention. The work makes explicit how threshold settings in sorting technologies govern large flows of matter, where small departures from normed appearance can trigger disposal at scale. Sonification here is not illustrative but operative: the same force that ejects an item sustains a tone. The listener encounters an economy of air in place of an economy of goods, with scarcity and cut off rendered as audible limits rather than hidden externalities.
