_like examines the swarm as a model of collective organisation, exploring how patterns of relation emerge from individual movement. The work situates itself within a broader discourse on new structures of coexistence, asking how togetherness might be reimagined beyond hierarchical order.

In dialogue with this inquiry, a network of 250 loudspeakers forms an acoustic swarm system. Based on the principles of wave field synthesis, the installation generates spatial sound fields through the precise placing of each loudspeaker. Rather than reproducing a stereo image, the system constructs virtual sound sources that move freely within the space, expanding listening into a shared acoustic topology.

The sound installation draws on Craig Reynolds’ research on artificial life, employing a Boid based model to simulate emergent behaviour. Through the interaction of individual agents following simple rules, _like manifests complexity as a social and sonic condition. The work makes audible a form of collective intelligence in which relation replaces command and structure arises through proximity, alignment and response.
