gömböc begins with an investigation into what is usually masked in instrumental sound. Through a self-developed process of hyper compression, the acoustic spectrum of the bass clarinet is flattened so that tone, breath and mechanical noise appear on the same level. Key clicks, air pressure and residual vibrations merge with pitched sound, forming a single sonic surface. The work questions what is considered essential in musical tone and what remains unheard within the instrument itself.

The piece extends the instrument’s vocabulary through techniques inspired by the guttural voice of metal music, creating a sound field that oscillates between control and instability. gömböc explores the fragile equilibrium between structure and distortion, between what is produced and what is revealed.
